FAQ's

How long will a roof tube last?

SHORT ANSWER: 1/2 day to several days depending on the product

LONG ANSWER: This answer depends greatly on the type of material being used.  With some acrylic products we've been able to stretch 1 tube out for several days (proper flushing at the end of day and lubrication the following day).  Even with some silicone and urethane we have been able to get several days out of a tube depending on the atmospheric conditions.  I have also had tubes not perform well after coming back from lunch just because of the conditions on the roof.  You might try thinking of these as a paint roller.  In many cases, it will cost more to try and clean a roof tube than to simply grab a new one.

How do I clean it?

Short answer:Depends on materials

Long answer: The Roof Tube can be cleaned and re-used succesfully, but only up to a certain point before the inner part of the tube and packings start to deteriorate. Think of them like paint rollers. Obvoiusly for Acrylics you can flush with water although you may need to relubricate the tube. For silicone's and poly urethanes you can flush with mineral spirits or xylene depneding on your materials. We recommend

What size tip should I use?

SHORT ANSWER: Buy them all

LONG ANSWER: No really you should buy them all... Or at least a couple of our bundle packs.  Each type of mastic draws and expels very different.  We recommend trying many different tip set ups to find the PERFECT combination.  If you are trying the Roof Tube for the first time with a new product, allow the first 1/2 hour for experimenting to find the best combination.  If you are unable to draw a product, move to a bigger tip. If the product is dispensing too fast and becoming costly and messy, move to a smaller tip or try adjusting the ball valve to slow the flow.

Jake’s roof tubes are awesome! I got the chance to test them out last spring on a commercial roof-coating job and found them to be incredibly helpful.

The tube is light-weight and easy to use. Even when the tube is full (while in use), it doesn’t feel heavy to the point that it isn’t still comfortable to hold and use. The weight of the tube while in use is controlled by the person using it, so smaller amounts of roofing product can be drawn into the tube, if weight is a factor for the user.

One full draw picks up a nice amount of material and it makes it easier to distribute product over larger sections of a roofing project. I found this to be a great time saver, as the tube can pick up a lot more product at a time than what can be soaked up and spread out with a paint roller alone.

I worked on a two-person crew, so one would use the roof tube to spread out the roof coating and the other would use a roller to make sure it was evenly distributed. It worked great!

Whether you’re a roofing contractor or a homeowner with a roof coating project in mind, I highly recommend the Roof Tube!

The roof tube saves you a ton of time when covering fasteners and seams.  If you use a brush you can cover about 10 fasteners in a minute, but with the roof tube you can cover about 60.  If you’re trying to cover a vertical seam with a brush it takes about 10 to 15 minutes per seam on a large roof. But with the roof tube, followed by a brush, it takes about two minutes. I have used the roof tube on about 20 roofs so far and it drastically cut my work time.

I just recently started trying some of the new tip designs that are universal on the roof tubes. The tips designed for specific things have helped cut off a minute here and there, as opposed to just using the original tip. The main thing the tips have helped me with is saving on material. One tip designed for urethane, one designed for thick urethane, one designed for silicone, one designed for thick silicone, and one designed for primer.  If you don’t have a roof tube on your roof, then your crew is just wasting excess time. It pays for itself the very first time you use it.

“The Roof Tube” makes a commercial roof repair so much faster and cleaner. I got to use the Roof Tube on a leaking metal roof in Gettysburg, PA. Seams and screws were sealed up so much quicker and neater. Thanks Jake!
